Chianciano Terme

Chianciano Terme is a well-known spa and therapeutic resort in Italy, the town develops between the Val d’Orcia with its clays (from the 2004 UNESCO World Heritage Site) and fertile (but once swampy) Valdichiana, between the hills of Montepulciano wines and the Renaissance attractions of Pienza.

Chianciano is about 70 km from Siena. It borders to the north with Montepulciano, to the east with Chiusi, to the south with Sarteano and to the west with Pienza.

He had in the period 1915-1920 rapid development with the construction of an aqueduct, of a bottling plant and with the renovation of the Acqua Santa plant. This development continued after World War II with the transformation of the spas and the increase in accommodation facilities.

The beneficial properties of the mineral waters of this town were already appreciated by the Etruscans and Romans, who had permanently occupied the area by building an important inhabited center.

Chianciano is not only the reference for those looking for well-being, spa treatments and cures, both the historic center and the surroundings are worth a visit: the ancient medieval village houses interesting architectural works, religious and museums; in the district there are natural areas and parks such as the Acquasanta Park, Fucoli Park and Terme di Sant’Elena Park.

The Clock Tower is worth seeing, the Civic Archaeological Museum of Waters and the Art Museum which houses ancient and contemporary works, and Guttuso at Munch.

In the surroundings, the countryside is ideal for sports such as trekking, cycling and hiking, you can go horseback riding or simple walks to discover the area between Val d’Orcia and Valdichiana. In these areas you can take food and wine tours and excursions in the wooded area of ​​Pietra Porciana, where there are trails, caves and picnic areas.
